Crystals Don’t Fix You — They Mirror You

A grounded perspective from a crystal shop in St. John’s, Newfoundland

There’s a common misconception about crystals.

That they “fix” things.

That they create love.
That they create protection.
That they create change.

They don’t.

At Brassy Lassy Inc., a crystal shop in St. John’s, NL since 2015, we’ve always approached stones differently.

Crystals don’t replace action.
They don’t override reality.
They don’t do the work for you.

What they do is mirror.

A Mirror, Not a Solution

When someone chooses black tourmaline for protection, the stone isn’t building boundaries for them.

It’s reinforcing the boundaries they are already learning to hold.

When someone chooses rose quartz for self-love, the crystal isn’t creating worth.

It’s supporting attention toward something that already exists but needs care.

Crystals reflect focus.

And focus shapes experience.

Why This Distinction Matters

If we believe a stone is responsible for change, we give away agency.

If we understand a stone as symbolic support, we stay empowered.

That’s the difference between superstition and intention.

Working with crystals becomes less about magical thinking and more about awareness.

And awareness is powerful.

The Relationship Is the Practice

Crystals become meaningful through relationship.

Carrying a piece daily.
Returning to it during specific moments.
Assigning intention consciously.
Reflecting on patterns.

The object becomes a touchpoint — not a shortcut.

This is how slow, intentional practice builds depth.

A Different Approach to Crystal Work

Long before crystals became widely talked about online, this work was rooted in curiosity and symbolism.

Brassy Lassy began working with stones and jewelry years before opening a permanent storefront in St. John’s in 2015. What grew from a small local market table in 2010 became one of the established crystal shops in the city — built on steady exploration rather than trend cycles.

That steady approach remains.

Not every stone needs drama.
Not every practice needs spectacle.
Not every purchase needs urgency.

Sometimes meaning builds quietly.

If you’re exploring crystals, approach them as mirrors.

Notice what you’re drawn to.
Notice what feels activating.
Notice what feels grounding.

The work is already yours.
